IN MEMORIUM OF MR. CARLISLE
Manning, Iowa

On the 12th of September, 1921 at his late home in this city, Mr. Collins H. Carlisle departed this life to enter upon, as we are sure, his eternal rest in the better world.

Mr. Carlisle was born in Springfield, Illinois on December 20, 1850 and was therefore, at day of his death, 70 years, 8 months, and 12 days old. His life has been spent in a few places, principally in this city. For some years he lived in Lynn County, Iowa, and for a few years in Benton County, Iowa, and for something like 30 years has resided in Manning.

About 44 years ago, Mr. Collins H. Carlisle was married to Miss Effie M. Perry at LaPorte City, Iowa. To this union there was born two children who will survive their father, their names being, Lewis M. Carlisle and Mrs. Alva Ingledue. About 12 years ago, he was married to Mrs. Mina Pearson of this city, with whom he lived most happily until death separated them. Mr. Carlisle was raised a Baptist and labored with that denomination for some time. On the 30th day of July 1911, he united with the Presbyterian Church of Manning and has been a most faithful member since. On May 22, 1921, he was solemnly ordained as an elder in said church by the pastor.

Mr. Carlisle leaves to mourn his death, not only his devoted wife and two children, whose names we have mentioned, but also a stepson, Elmer Pearson, and four grandchildren, and the whole community shares in the sorrow. He will be greatly missed in the church and community as a man of sterling character and deep pity.

The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon, September 15, 1921, at the Presbyterian Church in Manning, the pastor, Rev. Dr. W.W. Tait, preaching the sermon from Rev; 14 – 13. The I.O.O.F. of which the deceased was a faithful member, conducted the services at the grave, and the remains were laid to rest in the tomb until Jesus comes.
