In Memory of Conrad Koester
Funeral services conducted by Pastor Russell A. Peterson were
held Friday in the Lutheran Church of this city (Flandreau, S.D.) for Conrad Koester age 76
years, 4 months, 28 days, who died Thursday evening at the Fairview Home after an
illness of 17 months during which he had been confined to a bed.
Pall bearers were George Pepper, Henry Lohrmann, Rudolph Bothern, Ben Reumannn, William Ehlers and Henry Sorenson.
Interment was made at the Flandreau Union Cemetery under the direction of
the Overdahl Funeral Home.
Conrad Koester was born in Lunden Schleswig Holstein, Germany on October 10, 1872.
He was baptized in Germany. When he was nine years of age he came to this country
with his parents Jurgern and Marie Koester and settled in Aspinwall, Iowa. In 1900 he was
united in marriage to Minnie Wilhelmina (Hagedorn) Koester. In 1902 the young family came to
Moody County to locate on a farm near Flandreau and have made their home here ever
since.
To mourn his passing he leaves the widow: five children: Mrs. Heiko (Anna) Pantekock,
John of Oakland, California, Mrs. Joe (Frieda) Sedlachek, and Walter of Flandreau, a foster
son Walter of San Jose California, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren and
four great grandchildren, also two brothers, John of Huron S.D. and Gus of Manning Iowa.
Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death, the last of them a twin brother
George who passed away last year.
Relatives and friends who came from out of town to attend the last rites included John
Koester of Huron, Gus Koester and son Henry, Mrs. Herman Lamp, and Mrs. Ida Wunder
all of Manning, Iowa, Mr. & Mrs. William Van Dussen, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hannah of
Vail, Iowa, George Hagedorn and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hagedorn and Mr. and Mrs.
Oswald Schurz of Mitchell, S.D., Mrs. Roy Butman of Pipstone, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Mitchell, Rock Rapids, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Jensen of Oldham, S.D. and others.
