Cory Laver
Cory Allen, son of Jim and Susan (Milkert) Laver, was born June 5, 1970, at Audubon, Iowa. He was baptized on August 9, 1970, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Audubon and confirmed on May 19, 1985, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Branson, Missouri. Cory attended grade school in Manning and junior high school and high school in Forsyth, Missouri. After his schooling, Cory enlisted in the Army National Guard and served in Carroll with the 133rd Infantry Battalion until receiving his honorable discharge in 1996.

Cory worked in the construction trade, mostly as a roofer, but he also enjoyed doing remodeling and general handyman projects. His work took him to the Manning, Denison and Humboldt areas.

As a youngster, Cory enjoyed playing baseball and football, bringing home animals and participating in scouts. Throughout the years, he passed the time by fishing, camping, being in the outdoors, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, riding horses, hunting, dancing, playing Yahtzee and spending time with his kids. Cory was tenderhearted, had a contagious laugh and enjoyed a good joke.

On Monday, May 17, 2010, Cory died in his sleep at his home in Humboldt, Iowa. He was 39 years of age.

Cory is survived by his daughters: Alisha Laver of Manning; LaTisha Laver and friend Curtis Stork of Mount Carmel; and Emma Rose; his mother Susan Laver of Bradgate; his father Jim Laver and wife Eva of Harlan; a brother Cole Laver and wife April of West Des Moines; a sister Stephanie (Laver) Rosonke and husband Dan of Manning; a half-sister Amy Behn of Belgium; a step brother Jake Laver of Harlan; three step sisters: Heather Pals and husband Corey of Marshalltown; Bridgette Laver of North Liberty and Mariah Laver of Grand Forks, North Dakota; his grandmother Vera Laver of Harlan; two nieces Brandi and Brianna Rosonke; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by Roger Behn; his grandparents: Gladys and Fred Milkert, Ralph Laver and Bus and Betts Behn; and a niece Grace Rosonke.

I felt the light of heaven
It was shining down on me,
I heard His voice, He called my name,
"My child, Come follow Me;"
There is no pain, there is no hurt
Nor sadness anywhere,
In heaven there is joy and love
And I'll be waiting there;
For on the day I left this earth
I felt your many tears,
And now I watch you from above
And keep you near;
It hurts to be apart from me, but
Be patient for the day,
When we meet again in love and peace
When you too come this way.
