MRS. R.W. HALFORD
July 16, 1914 Manning Monitor

It was with a great shock that the people of Manning received the news last Thursday morning, July 9, 1914, that Mrs. Robert Halford had passed away at four o'clock that morning at the Methodist Hospital at Omaha. While she had been in poor health for over a year, and many of her most intimate friends doubted her ability to successfully cope with the disease, which was undermining her strength, yet her own courageous battle for life so inspired those about her, that they hoped against hope that she would be the victor in the unequal struggle.

As Dale Long, she has been known and loved in this community, from her birth. She was born on the old home place north of Manning, August 12th, 1887, being the fourth daughter in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Long. She was educated in the public schools of this town, and in the fall of 1906 she went to Des Moines and took a course of music in the Conservatory at Drake University, On May 24, 1908, she was married to Robert Halford, to which union three children were born, Berkly, Beverly, and Roberta.

During the past year she spent some time at Dr. Kime's Sanitorium at Ft. Dodge, but failed to get any relief. With the hope that she would recover, she went to the hospital in Omaha, and up to the hour when she relapsed into unconsciousness, from which she never awakened, she confidently told her friends that she would yet win the fight. Her life in Manning has been such as to win the admiration of all who knew her, for she was clean of character, pure of purpose, and filled well her place in the neighborhood, the home, and the church.

In January 1907, she united with the Christian Church and was an active member of that organization since that time. She was always a willing worker in the church, the Sunday School and any other department of religious work.

Besides her husband and children she leaves her mother, Mrs. Frank H. Long, and five sisters, namely, Mrs. William Schelldorf of Manning; Mrs. H.C. Hurd of Estherville, Miss Orma of the Elinor Moore hospital at Boone and Misses Corda and Nola, who still live at home.

The funeral service was conducted at the Christian Church last Sunday at eleven o'clock by her former pastor, Rev. C. Durant Jones of Perry, Iowa. A concourse of friends, so large that they were unable to gain admittance to the church, were present to pay tribute to her life. The choir from the Methodist Church furnished the music, and Rev. Jones was assisted by Rev. Hauser, the present pastor of the Christian Church. She was buried beside her father in the Manning Cemetery.

Those attending from a distance were, Cary Arney, of Marshall County, Iowa; Mrs. Crouse, of Marshall County, Iowa; Mrs. Perry Arney, of Marshall County, Iowa; Mrs. Weatherly, of Doan, Iowa; Mrs. Rheinhart, of Audubon, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mitten, of Harlan, Iowa; Mrs. P. Goodhow, of Iowa Center, Iowa; Mrs. G. Donahoe, of Nevada, Iowa: Mrs. C. Ham, of Rolfe, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Dolbeer, of Pocatello, Idaho; Mr. and Mrs. Claud Farrell, of Audubon County, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Farrell and Mr. and Mrs. Edison Farrell, of Gray, Iowa.
