Danny Hargens

Danny L. “Dan” Hargens, 60, of Fremont, Nebraska, died Monday, February 16, 2009, at Life Care Center of Elkhorn.

He was born June 11, 1948, in Manning, Iowa. As a child, he moved with his family to Elkhorn, then to Fremont and to Nickerson. He attended Hooper High School and was a 1966 graduate of Fremont High School. He married Genelle Johnson on November 20, 1965, at United Methodist Church in Nickerson. The couple then moved to Fremont where he was employed by DeKalb Pig Farm for several years. He worked at the Nickerson Co-op, then for Ross Rasmussen Sod Farm and then worked for Hormel Foods Corp. in Fremont for 41 years, retiring in 2009. He also worked part time for Adams Oil Co. in Fremont.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 of Fremont, the National Walleye Association and Local Union 22, UFCW.

Survivors include: his wife, Genelle; a daughter, Annette (and husband, Richard) Ten Eyck of Gordon; a brother, Chuck Hargens of Fremont; a sister, Barbara (and husband, Rob) Bachman of Leigh; and two grandchildren, Catilyn Ten Eyck and Taylor Levenhagen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bernice “Janet” (Young) Hargens; a son, Bradley D. Hargens; and a brother, David Hargens.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Greg Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. today, all at the funeral home.
