Darlyne Joye Dahleen, daughter of Henry and Florence (Schroeder) Thomssen, was born on November 14, 1933, at the home of her grandparents, Louis and Mary (Lemster) Schroeder, in Aspinwall, Iowa.

She was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Pastor Israel in 1934 and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa, by Pastor John on March 7, 1954.

Darlyne started her schooling in Aspinwall, and then attended Iowa Township No. 8 country school south of Aspinwall. She continued her education at Iowa No. 3 "Hickey" country school before graduating from Manilla High School in Manilla, Iowa, with the class of 1952.

On March 30, 1952, Darlyne was united in marriage to Edward "Eddy" Dahleen at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa with Pastor Schmidt officiating. To this union they were blessed with four children: Janine, Bruce, Brenda and Troy. After their marriage they made their home at Battle Creek for a short period before moving to Aspinwall in 1956. In 1964, the family made their home in Denison, Iowa, where Darlyne was employed at Albertsens, DeBoth, and Country Rose as a floral designer.

Darlyne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved baking and cooking for not only her family but anyone that stopped by the house. She and Eddy loved dancing together and listening to the Polka Party on the radio, watching RFDtv and spending countless hours researching her genealogy and tending to her flowers and garden.

After the death of Eddy on June 14, 2011, Darlyne continued to reside at home until February 22, 2016, when she moved into Eventide Lutheran Home. This is where she died on May 16, 2017, having attained the age of eighty-three years, six months, and two days.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Lorie Jean Dahleen, brother, Larry Thomssen, sister-in-law, Rose Ann Thomssen, and brothers-in-law: Jim Christensen and LeRoy Lingle.

She is survived by her children: Janine and her husband Dale Keim, Bruce Dahleen, Brenda and her husband Curtis Jensen, and Troy Dahleen all of Denison, Iowa; four grandchildren: David Keim, Brittany Pittman, Nicole and Trinton Dahleen; four step-grandsons: Matt, Jared, Nick and Adam Schwenn; sisters: Jean Christensen and Judy Lingle; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
