Funeral services for David Dalgety were held Friday, February 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Pastor Edward F. Heinicke of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning officiated. The organist was Mrs. Dorothy Kusel and the singers were Mrs. Ida Musfeldt and Mrs. Neva Hinners. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery with Paul Madsen, Allen Ehlers, Charles Ehlers, Francis Madsen, Brian Irlbeck, and Daryl Genzen serving as casketbearers.

David, son of James and Annie (Donaldson) Dalgety was born February 26, 1898, in Forfarshire, Scotland. He came to the Botna, Iowa, area with his family when he was 8 years old. His family was responsible at this time for bringing the first Black Angus cattle to this area. He attended school in Botna and Manning. He was united in marriage with Hilda Jansen and to this union was born four daughters. He was later married to Selma Vetter in August of 1939. This union was blessed with three daughters. They lived in the Manning area for all of their married life, mostly on a farm east of Manning. Dave was engaged in dairy and cattle farming with Black Angus cattle as his main interest. He also worked for the Manning Community School District as a school bus driver and janitor for 20 years.

He died at the Manning General Hospital on February 24, 1976, at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife Selma, the following daughters: Mrs. Ray Ehlers, (Phylis) of Manning, Mrs. Paul Johnson, (Lila) of Aurora, Colorado, Mrs. Robert Savage, (Alice) of Tigard, Oregon, Mrs. Ed Madsen, (Donna) of Audubon, Mrs. Daryl Genzen, (Diane) of Manning, Mrs. Merlyn Irlbeck, (Beverly) of Manning, and Mrs. Duane Otto, (Kay) of Manning; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Catherine Petersen of Manning, two cousins, Malcom Donaldson of Santa Anna, California, and Ed Donaldson of Lincoln, Nebraska.


David Dalgety is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
