David Genzen, age 54, of Manning, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, following a short illness.

David Daryl, son of Daryl and Diane (Dalgety) Genzen, was born May 17, 1963, at Manning General Hospital, Manning, Iowa. He was baptized June 30, 1963, by George B. Eschenbacher and confirmed May 8, 1977, by Edward F. Heinicke at Zion Lutheran Church. David grew up at Manning and attended Manning school, where he played football and was honored on the Homecoming Royalty. David graduated with the Class of 1981.

On May 4, 1985, David was united in marriage with Lori Wanninger at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Paul Krumm. To this union, two daughters were born. David and Lori made Manning their home. In 1989, David began a 28 year career with AGP in Manning, as a meal loader for the first four years and thereafter in maintenance.

Since 1999, David was a member of the Manning Fire Department. He had served in different leadership positions, and had been a Unit Captain since 2004.

David enjoyed helping with 4H, raising cow/calves, helping plant and harvest for neighbors, and camping. But he particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his father Daryl; his parents-in-law John and Norma Wanninger; a brother-in-law Keith Vokt; and a sister-in-law Nancy Wanninger.

David is survived by his wife Lori Genzen of Manning; two daughters: Heather Adams and husband Eric of Vail; Abby Lapel and husband Jon of Vail; his much loved grandchildren Riley and Kennedy Adams and Levi and Taylor Lapel; his mother Diane Genzen of Manning; two brothers: Dana Genzen of Carroll and Dean Genzen of Manning; his brothers and sisters in laws Vickie Ewoldt, Craig Wanninger and Cindy Vokt, all of Audubon; Lisa and Wayne Zimmerman of Casey; and Lana Wanninger of Denison; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

God saw he was getting tired
and a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around him
And whispered, "Come with me."
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer
And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating.
Hard working hands laid to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
