In Memory of Delone Joens

Delone Joens, 88 passed away on June 6, 2015, at her home in San Diego, California, following an extended battle with cancer. She was born on October 10, 1926, near Arcadia to Fred and Amanda Brockman. Dee grew up on the family farm south of Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1943.

She married Merlin Musfeldt in 1946 in the Arcadia Lutheran Church. They lived on a farm south of Manning where they raised their family. She was involved in her community's school events and numerous church activities. They were selected an AFS (American Field Service) sponsor, having a student from Norway live with them and complete a year of high school in Manning in 1963-64.

In 1967 they moved to Maui, Hawaii, where Merlin managed the hybrid development for Microgen Seed Corn. Three years later they moved to Phoenix, calling Arizona their home until Merlin's passing in 1988. They were married for 42 years. Dee was an active partner in all of their business ventures to include farming, real estate management and owning a construction equipment rental yard.

In 1990 she married Lester Joens of Manning, living in Iowa until his passing in 2006. She enjoyed her step-children Deanne, Tonya, Jeff, and Brian and their families.

Her final five years were in San Diego at an independent senior living community. She greatly enjoyed playing cards and the social gatherings.

She is survived by her son Jeff Musfeldt and his wife Laura of Scottsdale, Arizona, her daughter Laurel Wenger of San Diego, California. Grandchildren are Chad Wenger of Sydney, Australia; Ryan Wenger of Santa Barbara, California; Ashley Musfeldt of New York, New York; Natalie Bagby of Dallas, Texas; Annie Duarte of Portland, Oregon; Austin Musfeldt of Columbia, South Carolina; and Adam Musfeldt of Bend, Oregon. Also surviving are a sister Rowene Kraft of Ankeny and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Phyllis Opperman of Manning and their daughter, Debra Determan, a close San Diego friend. Additionally, her "Norwegian Son," Dr. Johan Lillehaug and his wife Erin of Bergen, Norway.

She was preceded in death of her parents, her husbands, brother Raymond Brockman and two siblings Clifford and Eunice in infancy.

Funeral services are tentatively planned for July 18th in Manning, Iowa.
