DELORES ELAINE JAHN
Delores, daughter of Ralph and Verna (Garnes) Clark,
was born January 21, 1933, in Guthrie County, Iowa. She began her education in
the Bayard Community School System, graduating in 1950 from Coon Rapids High
School. Following graduation she attended the American Institute of Business in
Des Moines, after which she worked for a law firm in that city. On May 25, 1952,
Delores was united in marriage with Lyle Wilhelm Louis Jahn at the Zion
Lutheran Church in Manning. They continued to live in Manning where Delores
worked for the Manning Schools until her first child was born. She became a full-time
homemaker, taking great pride and care in raising her four sons.
After her last son was well established in school Delores began working in the dietary department at the Manning General Hospital where she worked until the present time. Delores was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in her support of music and sports at Manning High School, although her primary commitment was to being a loving mother and grandmother.
Delores died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, August 1, 1989, at the age of 56 years, 6 months, and 11 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, on November 11, 1987, and by her father, Ralph Clark on December 31, 1982.
Delores is survived by her four sons: Kim and Mari, of Manning; Kent and Heidi, of Pleasant Hill, Illinois; Dana and Tina, of Manilla; and Eric and Jodee, of Grand Forks, North Dakota; by six grandchildren: Michelle, Gretchen, Christian, Tiffany, Lane, and Clark; by her mother, Verna Clark, of Bayard; by her father and mother-in-law, Hugo P.G. and Gladys Jahn, of Manning; and by many aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Footprints
One night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with
the Lord, and across the skies flashed scenes from my life. In each scene I
noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One was mine, and one was the
Lord's.
When the last scene of my life appeared before me, I looked back at the
footprints in the sand and to my surprise I noticed that many times along the
path of my life there was only one set of footprints. And I noticed that it was
at the lowest and saddest times in my life.
I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you would walk with me all the way. But I notice that during the most
troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't
understand why you left my side when I needed you most."
The Lord replied, "My precious child, I love you and would never leave
you. During your times of trial and suffering, where you see only one set of
footprints, I was carrying you."
