Delores Mary, daughter of Henry and Bertha (Seidl) Nickum, was born November 4, 1927, in Manning, Iowa. Lori grew up in Manning where she attended school and graduated with the Manning High School Class of 1945.

On May 15, 1946, Lori was united in marriage with Donald Leo "Bonnie" Joens in Manning. They were blessed with three children. They were members of Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Lori was a homemaker while her children were at home and in school. She worked in the office for Doctors Edgerton and Chandler and later Doctor Myer and from 1966 to 1972 she served as Justice of the Peace. After Bonnie retired in 1987, he and Lori enjoyed spending their winters at Bull Head City, Arizona. Bonnie died August 19, 1996.

As Lori's health began to fail she entered Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. From there, on December 10, 2001, she returned to the Manning Plaza where she died Thursday morning, December 27, 2001, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 24 days.

Besides her husband, Lori was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters: Harold Nickum, Lawrence Nickum, Donald Nickum, Virginia Ross, Maxine Page, Coreen Knudsen, Isabelle Nickum, and Loretta Dau.

Lori is survived by three children: Charlotte and husband Jim Soll of Audubon, Iowa; Mark Joens and wife Mary Jo of Pierre, South Dakota; and Kerry Joens and wife Jane of Bellevue, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Brad Zettl: Angela and husband Jason Ledoux; Matthew Joens; Ron Soll and wife Sue; Barbi and husband Dave Elmquist; Wendy and husband Jason Strader; Penny and Nicholas Joens; seven great-grandchildren: Jessica and Jenna Soll; Alex and Abby Elmquist; Maria Powell; Sophia and Joseph Zettl; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
