Delton Karl, son of Harry and Wilhelmina (Meggers) Gruhn, was born October 12, 1930, in Manning, Iowa. Delton was baptized on December 7, 1930, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He attended catechism classes with his sisters and was confirmed on November 21, 1946. He attended rural school through the eighth grade and then went on to Manning High School graduating with the Class of 1948.

Delton started farming with his father and continued to farm in the Manning area. Friends introduced him to Janet Schultz after she came to Manning to teach. They were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, northwest of Battle Creek, on May 28, 1961. Four sons were born to this union and raised on the Gruhn Family Farm. The couple retired and moved into town in 1992.

He was a member of the Win or Grin 4-H club and later became a leader. He served on the ASCS Board, was a board member of the Carroll County Fair Board, and served as a Ewoldt Township Trustee. Delton and Janet enjoyed their Wednesday night couples card club. His family was very important to him. Throughout his life he thoroughly enjoyed his family, farming, fishing, and playing cards.

As Delton's health issues took their toll, he entered Manning Regional Healthcare Center where he died on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 30 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sister Wilma Wolfe and brother-in-laws Tom Wolfe and Norman Meyer; and daughter-in-law Anita Gruhn.

Delton is survived by his wife Janet Gruhn of Manning; four sons Dwight (Jeanne) Gruhn of Manning; Todd (Shelly) Gruhn of Manning; Craig (Margie) Gruhn of Templeton, and Dale (Leeann) Gruhn of Parkersburg; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Jeanette Meyer of Newhall, California, and Marlyn (Charles) Fielweber of Manning; brother-in-law Larry (Cindy) Schultz of Stratford, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
