DR. E.W. (DICK) FRAHM

Funeral services for Dr. E. W. "Dick" Frahm were held Saturday, January 15, 1983, 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. The Reverend Bill Davis of the Westside United Church officiated at the service. Dorothy Kusel was organist. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Raymond Sander, Art Rix, Clyde Kenyon, Clifford Johnson and Herb Bromert as honorary casketbearers, and Johnnie Stender, Dan Vollstedt, Dr. Walter D. Felker, Brad Vollstedt, Roger Vollstedt and Brian Lage as active casketbearers.

Dick, son of John and Minnie Reimer Frahm, was born July, 28, 1905, at Manning, Iowa. He was graduated from Manning High School in 1923. He was united in marriage with Elma Petersen July 8, 1928, and to this union was born one daughter, Letty. He and Elma operated a hardware store in Avoca, Iowa. Elma died in 1929. After her death he attended Kansas State University in Veterinary Medicine where he was graduated in 1935.

On June 18, 1937, he was united in marriage with Sophia 'Horn and to this union was born one daughter, Jan. He worked as a veterinarian for the United States Government in Texas and Puerto Rico before beginning private practice in Michigan. Sophia died in 1965 while they were in Michigan.

On September 10, 1967, he was united in marriage with Fern Farley Carey. They remained in Michigan until his retirement in 1973, when they moved to Manning. Fern died in 1980.

Dick enjoyed helping Dr. Walter D. Felker at the Manning Veterinary Clinic as well as spending many enjoyable hours at the Manning-Manilla Golf Course.

After a brief illness he died at St. Joseph Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, Thursday, January 13, 1983, at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 15 days.

Besides his three wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Reesa Rothmeyer; and a sister, Hilda Petersen.

He is survived by two daughters, Letty, Mrs. Walt Rothmeyer, Westside, and Jan, Mrs. Kenneth Steiner, Munich, Germany; by two granddaughters, Rae Rothmeyer, Iowa City, and Raegan


Dick Frahm is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
