Richard Dean "Dick" Hansen
Richard Dean "Dick", son of Hans and Magdalena (Mayer) Hansen, was born September 5. 1936, at the family home in Audubon County, Iowa. He attended school at Viola Consolidated School and graduated in 1954. Dick then joined Thorpe Implement in Coon Rapids, first as a mechanic and then as a salesman.

On June 17, 1955, Dick was united in marriage with Marilyn Louise Molgaard at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Four children were born to this union. They made their home in Coon Rapids until 1958 when Dick took a job as a bus mechanic and driver with the Audubon Community School. In 1960 Dick and Marilyn moved to Manning where Dick worked as a John Deere salesman with Puck Implement for 40 years, until his retirement at the end of 1999.

Dick was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Manning Heritage Foundation. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and made many special things for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing golf, visiting his farm customers, playing cards at the V.F.W. and driving around town in his green Chevy pickup. To his family and many of his Audubon area friends, Dick was also known as "Buck." His children and grandchildren were of the utmost importance to him.

In February of 2003. Dick was diagnosed with cancer and on Monday, July 14, 2003, he died suddenly from unexpected complications of his cancer at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. He was 66 years, 10 months and 10 days of age.

Besides his parents. Dick was preceded in death by three sisters: Eleanor Watts, Carolyn Hoffman and Charlotte and husband Dennis Kinney; father-in-law Ted Molgaard: sister-in-law Lorraine Nickum and brothers-in-law Russell Hansen and Edward Bylund.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Hansen of Manning, children: Douglas Hansen and wife Sharon of Las Vegas. NV, Malia Soll and special friend Mark Hutchins of Chandler, AZ., Kristin and husband David Dailey of Manning, Kyle Hansen and wife Debra of Templeton; grandchildren: Adam Soll, Mackenzi Dailey, Tyler Dailey, Evan Soll, Shelby Hansen, Garrett Hansen and Reese Hansen; brother Dale Hansen and wife Lorraine of Alden; sisters: Rose Bylund of Audubon, Violet and husband Darrell (Archie) Andersen of Audubon and Anna and husband Hayden England of Omaha. NE: mother-in-law Louise Molgaard of Audubon: sisters-in-law: Shirley and husband Floyd Small of Fremont, NE; Kathleen Hansen of Ankeny and Jolene DuVall of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
