Dolores Brockman

Dolores Harriett Brockman, age 91, of Carroll, Iowa, and formerly of Arcadia, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Carroll Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 2, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Rebecca Dose. Congregational hymns will be "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "I’m But a Stranger Here," and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee." Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dolores’ Grandchildren: Troy Anthony, Tammy Grant, Matthew Brockman, Michelle Nelson, Marcus Brockman, and Michael Brockman. Honorary casket bearers will be her great grandchildren: Cara Anthony, Parker Grant, and Paige Grant.

Born on June 29, 1919, at Manning, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harry and Laura (Joens) Kruse. She grew up on a farm northwest of Manning and attended Hayes Township Country School No. 7 as a girl. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. After school she worked for her aunt at the Manning Hotel. She was married to Raymond Brockman on October 2, 1940, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. The couple farmed in the Arcadia area all their married life. In 2003 Ray and Dolores moved to Westwood Knowles in Carroll where they made many new friends with staff and residents. Dolores was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia where she was a member of Ladies Aid and LWML. In her spare time she enjoyed playing Pinochle, following the Chicago Cubs, canning, fishing, and most importantly spending time with her family.

Surviving are a daughter Kay Anthony and her husband Royce of Adel, Iowa; a son Kim Brockman and his wife Cindy of Arcadia, Iowa; a sister Willetta Sander of Denison, Iowa; six grandchildren: Troy Anthony and his wife Barb of Adel, Iowa, Tammy Grant and her husband Larry of Ankeny, Iowa, Matthew Brockman and his wife Jami of Volga, South Dakota, Michelle Nelson and her husband Chris of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Marcus Brockman of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and his special friend Tasha Sellman of Carroll, and Michael Brockman of Arcadia; three great grandchildren: Cara Anthony, Parker Grant, and Paige Grant; two sisters-in-law Delone Joens of San Diego, California, and Rowene Kracht and her husband Robert of Ankeny, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 2006 and a sister Florence Ramsey.
