Donna Faye (Wiese) Hargens

Donna Faye, daughter of Louie and Elsa (Boyens) Wiese, was born April 26, 1928, on a farm in Shelby County near Botna, Iowa. She attended the Botna School until the age of seven, at which time she started attending the Aspinwall School. When Donna was ten years old, the family moved to the Dairy View Farm and she attended Manilla Community School, graduating in 1947. After graduation, Donna moved to Manning and began working, for her brother-in-law Eddie Johnson at the JM McDonald department store, as the cashier and bookkeeper.

On October 4, 1948, Donna was united in marriage with Wayne "Nit" Hargens at Manning. Through their union came a family of 5 children: Terry, Pam, Tom, Lonny and Dawn. The family made their home in Manning where Donna worked as a Nurse Aide in the hospital and in a home health care setting. Donna retired in 1990. She also tended bar at Grimm's and Saunders Steak House. In July of 2007, Donna became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home.

On Friday, September 11, 2009, Donna died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. She was 81 years old.

Donna was a member of the Manning United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a frequent blood donor and enjoyed playing cards and bingo and telling jokes. Even through her blindness, Donna enjoyed making mints, earning a blue ribbon and a cash prize at the 2009 Crawford County Fair.

Donna is survived by her five children: Terry Hargens and wife Tammy of London, Kentucky; Pam Centarri and husband Mike of Omaha, Nebraska; Tom Hargens and wife Francine of Indianapolis, Indiana; Lonny Hargens and wife Mary of Omaha, Nebraska; and Dawn Ritchison-Dickey of Longmont, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Milford Wiese and Dewey Wiese; a sister Marcella (Wiese) Johnson; and her estranged husband Wayne.

I felt the light of heaven
It was shining down on me,
heard His voice, He called my name,
"My child, Come follow Me;"
There is no pain, there is no hurt
Nor sadness anywhere,
In heaven there is joy and love
And I'll be waiting there;
For on the day I left this earth
I felt your many tears,
And now I watch you from above
And keep you very near;
It hurts to be apart from me, but
Be patient for the day,
When we meet again in love and peace
When you too come this way.
