Dorothea Ehlers

Funeral service for Dorothea E. "Dort" Ehlers of Arcadia will be at 10 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia.

Mrs. Ehlers, 68, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long illness.

The Revs. Ben Dose and Paul Frank will officiate the service.

Casket bearers will be the Rev. David Meggers, Larry Meggers, Denny Meggers, Larry Ehlers, Paul Ehlers and Christ Ehlers. Honorary casket bearers will be Mrs. Ehlers' grandchildren.

Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service and children's sermon will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will continue at 8 a.m. Monday.

Dahn and Woodhhouse Funeral Home of Carroll is in charge of arrangements.

A daughter of William F. and Elvira (Gruhn) Meggers, she was born on March 27, 1940, at Manning, was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and was confirmed April 3, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia by the Rev. Theo Tews. She attended school at Manning and Westside and graduated from Ar-We-Va High School in 1957. She spent her life in Westside and Arcadia.

She and Wilbert Ehlers were married Aug. 9, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with the groom's brother, the Rev. Harvey Ehlers, officiating.

Mrs. Ehlers was a school bus driver in the 1970s and began working as a teacher associate at Ar-We-Va Elementary School in 1985.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, and taught Sunday school, mid-week lessons and vacation bible school. She enjoyed attending school sporting events.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbert, of Arcadia; five daughters and their husbands: Debra and Joel Owen of Arcadia, Diane and Mark Schurke of Vail, Darlys and Tom Berg of Owatonna, Minn., Denise and Mark Ragaller of Vail and Donna and Darin Schurke of Arcadia; two sons and their wives: Douglas and Alison Ehlers of Westside and Dwight and Melissa Ehlers of Arcadia; 20 grandchildren; and two brothers: William Meggers of Westside and Duane Meggers and wife Luetta of Westside.

Mrs. Ehlers was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Allen; and a brother, Edward Meggers.
