Mrs. Henry Ewoldt Laid To Rest Last Saturday

Mr. and Mrs. Ewoldt Observed Their 66th Wedding Anniversary Last Year
A Pioneer Settler

On Thursday, April 5th, 1934, at 1:00 o'clock in the morning occurred the death of Mrs. Henry Ewoldt, Sr.

And as she passed away, there was contentment in the heart of the weary pilgrim, for everlasting happiness awaits the tired soul after it crosses the border into the great unknown; which is the reward for a life well spent and a task well done.

This grand old mother who has gone from our midst, was ever sowing seeds of kindness, was ever doing something for those with her and near her, and was a true and helpful companion to her husband. Although the days of life are not always filled to the brim with things that bring joy alone, she, nevertheless, reaped a good measure of the finer things of life. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed the high esteem of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Mr. and Mrs. Ewoldt resided for many years in the town of Manning, but when the marks of their great age began to interfere, the children welcomed them into their homes wherever they wished to be.

At the time of her death, Mr. and Mrs. Ewoldt were living with their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boettger of Spirit Lake.

Dorothea Catherine Vinke was born on September the 21st, in the year 1848. She was born in the village of Schoenberg, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Vinke.

In the year 1865, and when she was 17 years of age she came to the United States, landing in Davenport, Iowa. In Davenport she met her future husband, Mr. Henry Ewoldt, and on June the 16th, 1867, they were married. To this union there were born 14 children; five of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Ewoldt is survived by her husband and nine children. Her husband last March attained the great age of 93 years, and much sympathy is felt for the old gentleman who will miss and mourn his life's partner so much.

Mrs. Ewoldt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Germany, and she came to this country with all the trust and hopefulness of youth. Here in her adopted land she lived a most useful and splendid life, and great numbers of people could testify to her kindliness and her good life through all the years. She was a very devoted wife and the best of mothers, and in the words of scripture it may be said with truth: "Her children rise up and call her blessed."

Mrs. Ewoldt had not been in good health for about a year, but a month ago the change for the worst became apparent indeed. From then on she failed rapidly. On Monday night, last, the 2nd of April, she fell into a coma and from this she never regained consciousness, and on Thursday morning April 5, she passed peacefully away. She was 85 years, 6 months and 19 days when she fell in sleep.
