On August 2, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage with Lyle O. Arp at the Manning First Presbyterian Church. Two children were born into this union. Dorothy stayed active working with youth as a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader and in the Grandparents Program at Manning Community Schools. She was an active member for the First Presbyterian Church, secretary for the Salona Chapter O.E.S. for 30 years and was a charter member of the Manning Chapter of P.E.O. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing bridge, bowling and golfing and playing tennis. In retirement Dorothy and Lyle enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Europe, Austrailia, New Zealand, China, South America and across the United States.
As her health began to fail, Dorothy became a resident of the Manning Plaza in December 2007. On December 28, 2008, she was transferred to Manning Regional Health Care Center where she died December 29th at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 8 days.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and son Ronald Arp in 1973.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lyle Arp of Manning; daughter Janet and husband Gaylin Ranniger of Manning; grandchildren: Alex Ranniger and wife Kari of Manning; Abbey and husband Aaron Stangl of Manning; and Jacob Ranniger of Manning; great-grandchildren: Aden and Anna Stangl; sister Eleanor and husband Lyle Schrum Jr. of West Des Moines and Ft. Myers, Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives in Iowa and Hamburg, Germany.
I'm occasionally adding the actual scanned image of the obituary I make using my VERY expensive - large commercial scanner,
and/or also other articles about the deceased person that were published in the Manning Monitor.
I want to also comment about people who are taking my obituaries, pictures, and/or other articles about a person/family and posting them on other websites.
You do NOT have permission or the right to do this - you are stealing my historical work.
Buy your own scanning equipment, pay for memberships to other commercial websites,
and spend decades working on your local history like I have - then you'll understand why I'm making these comments!
Thank you for your attention to this matter - Dave Kusel
