Dorothy Magdalena Coleman
Funeral rites for Dorothy Magdalena Coleman, 68,
were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Feb 23, 1966, at the Ohde Funeral Home
in Manning, with Rev. M.J. Nash of the Methodist Church officiating.
Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Frank Wegner, Merlin Hass, Clousie Grimm, Lyle Hansen, Harry Schroeder and Melvin Scholl.
Daughter of Thomas and Christina Kroger, she was born September 28, 1897, in Shelby County and lived near Manilla. She also lived in South Dakota and Wisconsin,
where she received her schooling. The family returned to Iowa. In 1916, she was married to Bill E. Joens, and they farmed near Manilla. They had five daughters.
Mr. and Mrs. Joens moved to Manning in 1923, and he died in 1937.
She was married to John D. Coleman on March 29, 1941, and had lived here since that time.
She died suddenly at her home early Monday morning, February 21. She was preceded in death by her first husband, a daughter, Inez, one year; a daughter, Mrs. Floyd Johnsen (Elnora) of Milan, Illinois, in 1961, two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters: Mrs. Barney (Viola) Stangl, Knoxville; Mrs. Harold (Naomi) Spitler, East Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Ted (Donna) Williams, Harlan; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. W.C. (Alice) Schrum, Manning; Mrs. Hugh (Delia) Leslie, Independence, Mo.; Mrs. Hellman (Ann) Thomsen, Glidden; two brothers, Thomas Kroger, Harlan, and Ed Kroger, Lincoln, Nebraska.
