Funeral Service for Dorothy Grundmeier was held Monday, October 3, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. Pastor Carl L. Noble officiated with music provided by the congregation with Lisa McNelly as accompanist. Interment was at the Arcadia Cemetery in Arcadia with Dale Musfeldt, Terry Jensen, Jeff Vetter, Neil Leiting, Denny Henderson, and Eric Hammer as casketbearers. A visitation was held after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2005 with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa.

Dorothy Pauline, daughter of Ludwig and Hilda (Volquartsen) Hammer, was born July 3, 1935 in Manning, Iowa. She attended Manning schools and graduated with the Class of 1953. Following her graduation, Dorothy moved to California for a short time before returning to Iowa. She worked for the Department of Transportation in driver's license renewal.

On May 3, 1958, Dorothy was united in marriage with Donald Grundmeier at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. They made their home on a farm southeast of Westside and were the parents of three children. Dorothy continued to work until the birth of their first child. She then stayed home on the farm, raising their children and helping support their farming operation.

Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia and American Legion Auxiliary in Westside. In her spare time she loved playing cards and bingo. When her health permitted she was an avid bowler. Most of all she loved and supported her family.

Dorothy was plagued with some health problems the last few years, however, maintained an active life. In mid 2005 she learned of her cancer and died of complications of a biopsy at Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 25 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers Louie Hammer and Russell Hammer and two sisters Florence Christiansen and Delores Hammer.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Donald Grundmeier of Westside; three children Allen Grundmeier, Lori Grundmeier and Kurt Grundmeier all of Edina, Minnesota; one grandson Brady Grundmeier at Trinity International University, Deerfield, Illinois; two sisters Ruth Jensen and Margaret Bilsten, both of Manning; two sisters-in-law Beverly Hammer of Boone and Anita Hammer of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
