Daughter of E.F. Escher injured
August 3, 1905
Manning Monitor

Edwin Franklin Escher informs us that his little daughter had a narrow escape from being killed or crippled for life last week. It seems Mr. Escher has been doing some excavating and building a new barn and had a deep ditch dug but it was covered over, and in walking over it the little girl fell in some way and it being about 6 feet deep she received several hard bruises about the head and body which made her unconscious for several hours, but at this time she is getting along nicely and it is hoped is out of danger.

Note: in all probability this article is referring to the barn shown in this 1906 Ad from a Carroll County Atlas.

Presently this is the farm place of Amos & Dorothy Kusel just north of Manning who later purchased the farm from Laura Jones who lived with her husband on a farm near Ames, IA, and then moved to Colorado.
The barn is still here but it had been modified quite a bit prior to Kusels owning the property.
