EDDIE DAMMANN
Funeral services for Eddie Dammann were held Monday, March 21, 1988 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Larry Genzen, vocalist, and Paula Weiss, organist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Paul Jensen, Kalvin Dammann, Arlo Dammann, Keith Jensen, Duane Dammann, and William Goettsch serving as casketbearers. Eddie, son of Claus and Anna Biehl Dammann, was born October 5, 1897 near Manning in Carroll County, Iowa. He attended country school near his home.
On February 8, 1922 Eddie was united in marriage with Alviena Goettsch. Four children, Edna, Delores, Herbert, and Don were born to this union. Eddie and Alviena farmed in Audubon County, south of Manning until 1964 when they moved into Manning to make their home. Eddie had been a resident of the Manning Plaza since the fall of 1986. His wife, Alviena, who was also a resident of the Manning Plaza, died in February of 1987. Eddie continued to make his home in the Plaza and died there on Friday, March 18, 1988 at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 13 days.
Besides his wife, Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; by three brothers, Julius, Ernest, and Emil; by his son, Herbert; and by a granddaughter, Carol Jean Jensen.
Eddie is survived by his children: Edna and her husband, Reinhardt F. Rudnick, of Phoenix, Arizona, Delores and her husband, Lyle Jensen, of Cedar Rapids; and Donald Dammann and his wife, Judy, Manning; by 12 grandchildren; by great-grandchildren; by a daughter in-law, Evelyn Dammann, of Overland Park, Kansas; by two sisters-in-law, Ella Dammann and Maxine Dammann; and by a brother-in-law, William Goettsch.
Eddie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He enjoyed his orchard and gardening, especially his strawberries. Eddie was also an avid fisherman. His grandchildren were a great joy to him.
