Edith Irene, daughter of Chris and Sena (Moeller) Lund, was born August 10, 1918, at home on a farm near Botna, Iowa. The family also lived on a farm near Manning and then in Aspinwall. Edith attended country schools and the school in Aspinwall. When she was in sixth grade the family settled in Coon Rapids where she graduated in 1937. While in high school she completed Normal Training and then taught country schools for six years. Over the years, Edith attended both Drake University in Des Moines and Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, eventually teaching in Bayard during World War II.

On September 16, 1945, Edith was united in marriage with Harold Johnson. They made their home in Coon Rapids where she began teaching in 1947. After six years, she retired from teaching to spend time caring for her family. During the 1955-56 school year, Edith started as Coon Rapids School Board and superintendent's secretary under Superintendent Zea. She served in that capacity for 24 years, retiring in 1980. That same year, Edith and Harold were chosen Citizens of the Year by the Coon Rapids Kiwanis Club.

Edith was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church and Past President of Carroll County Teacher's Association, Carroll County 4-H, and Iowa Chapter CU of the National TTT Society. She was a member of Federated Woman's Club, American Home Department; O. M. C. Club; Retired Teachers Association and American Legion Auxiliary. Edith enjoyed her home and family and especially enjoyed the company of her sister Erna.

After Harold suffered a stroke and died in 1995, Edith continued with their plans to move to an apartment in Coon Rapids. When her health no longer permitted her to live alone she became a resident of Thomas Rest Haven Nursing in Coon Rapids. She died there on Thursday morning, August 7, 2008, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 28 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Elmer Lund.

Edith is survived by her daughter Kristie and husband Brian Cummings of Columbus Junction; son Kent Johnson and wife Sue of Wapello; four granddaughters: Alissa and husband Nathan Villhauer and their daughter Shelby of Hills; Sena Cummings of Columbus Junction; Andrea and husband Eric Riley of Davenport and Karra Johnson of Davenport; sister Erna Lund of Coon Rapids; sister-law Anna Lund of Glidden; other relatives and many friends.
