Edith Johnston
The home of Mr. and Mrs. William Johnston of Manning has been the scene of much sorrow during the past week by the death of two of their children. Edith E., aged 1 year, 2 months and 16 days, died of pneumonia after an illness of about one week, on Saturday forenoon. James Owen, their oldest boy, who was assisting B.C. Brookfield on the farm, was taken sick on Wednesday and the father was called to the bedside of his sick boy, while the mother attended to the baby. The boy gradually grew worse and on Saturday night at 10 o'clock he too, passed away, his complaint being spinal meningitis. His age was 17 years, 8 months and 22 days. The double funeral was held from the Presbyterian Church on Monday at 10 o'clock, under the auspices of the K. of P. Lodge, of which Mr. Johnston is a member, and the sermon was preached by Elder Hicks. The remains were interred in the Lincoln Center Cemetery, followed there by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. That two should be taken from the family in a single day is most heartrending and the hearts of the fond parents are heavy with sadness. The entire community extends the hand of sympathy to the bereaved ones.
