THE FAMILY WISHES TO EXPRESS THEIR GRATITUDE FOR YOUR KINDNESS EVIDENCED IN THOUGHT, WORD, AND DEED, AND INVITES YOU TO JOIN THEM FOR LUNCH AND FELLOWSHIP AT THE CHURCH HALL FOLLOWING THE COMMITTAL SERVICE.
Edna Marie, daughter of Romance and Cornelia (Kamphaus) Dietrich, was born December 1, 1919, at Quincy, Illinois. She grew up in rural Quincy and attended St. Anthony's Catholic School there. Edna then worked at home and as a seamstress in a factory.
On September 21, 1948, Edna was united in marriage with Leo Joseph Blum at St. Anthony's Catholic Church near Quincy. Seven children were born to this union. Edna and Leo made their home on Leo's father's farm south of Manning, Iowa. They farmed there until 1968 when they moved into town due to Leo's health. Edna babysat and worked as a nurse's aide, but was needed at home most of the time to care for Leo. After Leo died on August 19, 1981, Edna remained in their home in Manning.
Edna was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Rosary Society. Edna enjoyed flowers, gardening, crocheting and sewing; most cherished was the time she spent with her family - her children and especially her grandchildren.
On Monday, May 19, 2003, Edna died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Manning, Iowa. She was 83 years, 5 months and 19 days of age.
Preceding her in death are her husband, parents, two brothers Lawrence Dietrich and Edgar Dietrich, sister, Lauretta Ehrhardt and two sisters-in-law Cora Dietrich and Mary Dietrich.
She is survived by her children: Michael Blum and wife Connie of Manning; Barbara and husband Melvin Jackson of Manning; Greg Blum and wife Debra of Council Bluffs; Mari and husband Kim Jahn of Manning; Joseph Blum and wife Laurie of Carroll; Donald Blum and wife Laura of Clive; and John Blum and wife Susie of Omaha, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two brothers Robert Dietrich of Burton, Illinois; and Ray Dietrich and wife Evelyn of Burton, Illinois; several in-laws: Dorothy and husband Robert Knobbe of Carroll; Peggy and husband Roland Huebner of Manilla; Jean and husband Bud Rushenberg of Des Moines; Josephine Blum of Los Angeles, California; and Genny Sheehan of Superior, Wisconsin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
