EDWARD ERPS

Funeral services for Edward Erps were held Wednesday, May 9, 1979, 11:00 a.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Officiating was the Rev. Joel Wright of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. Organist was Carl Sinning and vocalist was Mrs. Judy Joens. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Clarence Stammer, Clarence Bowers, Edmond Erps, Labert Stahl, Jr., Emil Ruhde and Leroy Jansen serving as casketbearers. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Edward August Carl, son of August and Lena (Dockweiler) Erps, was born June 8, 1903, in Monona County, Iowa. As a baby he moved with his family to a farm near Aspinwall, Iowa, and in 1908 they moved to South Dakota where Ed attended the rural schools near his home. In 1925 Ed returned to the Manning community and worked on various farms.

He was united in marriage with Malinda Meggers January 4, 1928. They farmed near Botna until moving to Manning in 1944. Ed worked at various jobs in Manning, including serving as school bus driver for nineteen years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. Following an illness of one and a half years, Ed passed away at the Manning General Hospital early Sunday morning, May 6, 1979, at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by one brother, Ben, and by two grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Malinda; by his son, George & daughter-in-law, Leona, of Denison; by four grandchildren, Linda, Mrs. Craig Custer, Leroy, Lyle and Georgia, all of Denison; by two brothers, Hans of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Emil of Scotland, South Dakota, by two sisters, Mrs. Malinda Lerssen of Manning, and Adella, Mrs. Albert Wold of Scotland, South Dakota; as well as by many other relatives and friends.
