Prominent Templeton Man Laid To Rest

A pall of gloom was cast over the entire community when it was learned of the premature demise of Edward H. Greteman, at St. Mary's Hospital, Minnesota, at the age of 39 years, 9 months and 29 days.

Born on the 21st day of August, 1895, at St. Killian, Minnesota, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Greteman. He lived his childhood and attended school in that town until the year 1905 when he moved with his parents to Templeton, Iowa. Advancing in the years approaching manhood he devoted his time to the carpenter trade, but because of injury sustained in that endeavor he found it necessary to choose another occupation.

Following a notable career at a Barber College, he returned to Templeton in the year 1916, where he established a barber shop and refreshment parlor and continued in that business until the spring of 1935 when failing health persuaded him to retire from a business so well established.

In the year 1927 he was married to Captolia Hinrichs of Manning, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine, in the year 1907, by his mother in the year 1916 and by his father in the year 1923.

The patronage enjoyed by him gave testimony of his initiative and rare ability. For nineteen years a prominent business man and active citizen, he lived according to his accepted principles and enjoyed the esteem, and respect of all with whom he came in contact.

His was a useful life to his aged father while living, to his wife, fellow-citizens and friends, never failing in his endeavor to meet his every obligation. A man of strong character, unimpeachable integrity and always determined that right should prevail.

A member of Sacred Heart church and a Knight of Columbus, he died in the faith in which he lived.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at 8:30 A.M., Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Frank Greteman of Sioux City, Iowa, assisted by the Rev. Bernard Greteman of Vail, and the Rev. Lawrence Greteman of Breda, and the Rev. James Greteman of Struble, Iowa, the latter acted as master of ceremonies. An outstanding tribute to the deceased was that the clergymen conducting the last rites were four cousins of the departed. Burial was made in the family plot in the Sacred Heart church cemetery. Pall bearers were Henry Lippold, Herman Lohman, Louis Schreck, William Stevens, Nick Ohlinger and Frank Kathman. Cross Bearer was Tommy Greteman.

The spacious church was entirely filled with relatives and friends. The large attendance and beautiful floral offerings bore evidence of his high esteem and popularity.

CARD OF THANKS
The loving kindness of my friends in the time of my bereavement will always be remembered by a grateful heart. My thanks expressed in this small way cannot give ample meaning or expression for the appreciation I feel. The respect manifested by the business men, the kind acts of my neighbors and friends lightened my burdens in the hour of sorrow. May God's blessing be with you and in your darkest hour bring you comfort, even as you have tried to comfort me.
Mrs. E.H. Greteman.
