Ed Knaack, 67, of Manning died unexpectedly at his home late Tuesday afternoon, July 22, 1975.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating and burial in the Manning Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ohde Funeral Home here after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Knaack is survived by his wife, Marcella; three children, Jerry of Okinawa, Mrs. Roger (Barbara) Nielsen of Denison, and Phillip of Oscoda, Michigan: six grandchildren, a brother and a sister.

Funeral services for Edward Herman Knaack, 67, of Manning were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church here, with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating.

Pallbearers were Gerald Beck, Kenneth Fogleman, George Peters, Francis J. Zerwas, Claus Nielsen, and William F. Ohde. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery, under direction of the Ohde Funeral Home of Manning.

Mr. Knaack died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday afternoon, July 22, 1975. He and Mrs. Knaack recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary and the graduation of a grandson by taking a six-week trip to the Orient.

Mr. Knaack was born at Manning January 10, 1908, a son of Fred and Christina (Ploog) Knaack. He graduated from Manning High School in 1927. On March 14, 1930, he was married to Marcella Martens.

He worked at Dultmeier Manufacturing Company in Manning for several years and then at the Manning Municipal Light Plant for nine years. For many years he worked with his brother-in-law, Alvin Martens, as an assistant buyer for Martens' Variety and recently, with the store's new owner, Gene Martens.

Mr. Knaack was an active member of the Manning Fire Department for 28 years. Active in church affairs, he was chairman of the Zion Lutheran Church elders for six years, served on the building committee and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League.

He served one year on the board of trustees of Manning General Hospital and was a member of the zoning board of the city of Manning. He was president of the local chapter of Aid Association for Lutherans for the past 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry of Okinawa, and Phillip of Oscoda, Michigan; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Barbara) Nielsen of Denison; six grandchildren; a brother, William Knack of North Hollywood, California; and a sister, Mrs. Hildegard King of Knoxville.

Another sister, Helen, preceded him in death.


Edward Knaack is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
