EDWIN PAUL HENRY GRIMM

Funeral services for Edwin Paul Henry Grimm were held Saturday, June 10, 1989 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa.

Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Paula Weiss as organist.

Interment was in the Manning City Cemetery with Kurt Sackschewsky, Steve Ridgley, Larry Grohs, Lance Kruse, Dave Tuttle and Bob Chapman serving as casketbearers.


 

Edwin, son of Edward and Dora Vinke Grimm, was born December 21, 1905 near Manning, Iowa. He was baptized on July 1, 1906 at Zion Lutheran Church and was confirmed on June 23, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church.

On August 28, 1929 Edwin was united in marriage with Helen Schmidt. Four children, Virgene, Robert, Jeanette, and Sylvia, were born to this union. They farmed near Manning and later spent many years farming near Manilla. In the spring of 1969 they moved to Manning to make their home.

About 10 years ago Ed lost his sight but managed to remain active around his home and enjoyed listening to the radio. His health began to fail early this year and he moved to the Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Lake City. A few days ago his health worsened and he was transferred to the Manning General Hospital in Manning, Iowa where he died Wednesday evening, June 7, 1989 at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 17 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Helen, who died earlier this spring on May 20; and by the following brothers and sisters: Ernest Grimm, Claus Grimm, Leona Schroeder, Dorothy Mohr, Willis Grimm, Paul Grimm, and Melvin Grimm.

Ed is survived by his children: Virgene and her husband, Doug Burright, of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Robert Grimm and his wife, Arlene, of Davenport; Jeanette and her husband, Lyell Miller, of Chehalis, Washington; and Sylvia Ridgley of Manning; by 16 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; by a sister, Dolores Balukoff of Manning; by a brother, George Grimm, of Pinebluff, North Carolina; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Edwin Grimm is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
