Elaine V. Cain, 85, formerly of the Highland Park neighborhood in Des Moines, died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Country Haven Guest Home in Winterset. Private services will be held by the family.

Elaine was born in Audubon, on October 16, 1921, to John and Matie (Jensen) Kusel and moved from the farm southwest of Manning to Des Moines in 1939. She worked as a press operator for Western International for twenty years retiring in 1987. She was a U.S. Marine Veteran of World War II and a member of the Am Vets Auxiliary and American Legion Post No. 374. She volunteered for the VA Hospital and the Animal Rescue League.

Elaine is survived by four children, Michael (Shaun) Cain, John (Wanda) Cain, Dianne (Steve) Bosch, and Dianne (Dawn) Cain; two sisters, Ellenene Witt and Jacqulyn Donovan; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Daniel Cain; and former husband, Roy Cain.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice or the Animal Rescue League.
