MRS. ALVAN (ELAINE) HANSEN

Funeral services for Mrs. Alvan (Elaine) Hansen were held Saturday, November 16, 1985, at 10;30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Paul Krumm officiated with Fern Jensen as organist and Larry Genzen as vocalist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Bob Tank, Herb Bruhn, Roy Struve, Roger Wegner, Ray Irlbeck, and Wayne Schroeder serving as casketbearers.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Elaine, daughter of Hermuth and Hilda Sievertsen Schroeder, was born October 25, 1920, near Aspinwall, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized on August 21, 1924, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Audubon County, Iowa. As a youth she attended school in Aspinwall and was graduated from Manning High School in 1939. On October 3, 1942, Elaine was-united in marriage with Alvan Hansen at Manilla, Iowa. She was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla on December 26, 1950. She lived with her husband on a farm north of Manning until retiring to their home in Manning in February of 1984. Elaine was very active in her community and was Past President of Homemakers Club. She served on the Carroll County Extension Family Living Council for four years and was selected Carroll County Homemaker of the Year in 1962. The American Legion Auxiliary was special to Elaine.

She served in many offices including President in the years of 65-66, 66-67 and 71-72. After that she served as Carroll County American Legion Auxiliary President from 1974 through 1976. She had been the Secretary of the local American Legion Auxiliary for the past 10 years. She was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

Elaine died unexpectedly at her hone, 517 Eleventh Street, Manning, Iowa, on Wednesday, November 13, 1985, at the age of 65 years, and 19 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by four children: Roger Hansen and wife Mary of Denver, Colorado; Joy Hansen of Denver, Colorado, and James Hansen, of Chicago, Illinois; and Vernon Hansen and his wife, Julie of Aurora, Colorado; by four grandchildren: Cynthia and Amy Hansen and Daniel and Mary Hansen; by a brother, Harold Schroeder and his wife, Bernice, of Manning; by her mother-in-law, Alta Hansen, of Manning; and by a sister-in-law, Lola Ahrendsen, of Manning; and by a niece, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
