Elda Margaret, daughter of Emil C. and Ida Christine (Hansen) Ewoldt, was born February 26, 1919, at home in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She grew up in Hayes Township where she attended country school. Elda then worked for area neighbors and friends doing housework.

On June 24, 1942, Elda was united in marriage with John Alfred Ehrichs at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Manning. Three children were born to this union. John and Elda made their home on his family farm in Crawford County. In 1974 they retired from farming and bought a home in Manning. In 1983 they moved to a home on Main Street. John died September 14, 2002.

Elda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Guild, Sewing Circle, Flower and Altar Guild and as a bible study leader and Sunday school teacher. She was baptized June 8, 1919, and confirmed March 24, 1934. Elda enjoyed traveling, quilting, gardening and flowers.

On Thursday, August 31, 2006, Elda died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, after a brief bout with heart problems. She was 87 years, 6 months and 5 days of age.

Besides her parents and husband, Elda was preceded in death by two sisters: Viola Ewoldt in infancy and Marcella Koepke and husband Russell.

She is survived by three children: John E. Ehrichs of Manning; Rosemary and husband Robert Stamm of Columbus, NE; and Linda and husband James Wietfeld of Leigh, NE; four grandchildren: Brian Wietfeld of Leigh, NE; Jamie Wietfeld of Omaha, NE; Robert Stamm and wife Chelsea of Broken Arrow, OK; Sara and husband Erik Miner of Overland Park, KS; great-granddaughters Amelia Stamm and Kaitlyn Miner; two nephews: Roger Koepke and wife Joycelyn of St. Louis, MO, and Rollin Koepke and wife Dee of Lincoln, NE; and by other relatives and friends.
