Eleanor (Dankenbring) Hay

Eleanor Alma Hay (61), born March 7, 1913, in Waterloo, Iowa, treasurer of the construction firm, Donald A. Hay Inc., died of cancer Saturday, October 19, 1974, at the Suburban Hospital. She lived on Persimmon Tree Road in Bethesda, Maryland.

In 1933, she was Miss Iowa in the Miss America beauty pageant. Mrs. Hay was a past president of the Town Club.

She leaves her husband, Donald; three daughters, Marilyn Westin of Tustin, California, Judy Speary of Olney, and Donna Lloyd of Pittsburgh; a son, Robert, of Laytonsville; a sister, Wilma Hohenstein of Bethesda, and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow in Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.


Note: Eleanor graduated from Manning High School in 1931. She attended Manning schools for four years. In the summer of 1927 she moved to Manning to live with her aunt Lulu (Widmann) Sinn (Mrs. Dr. Jens J. Sinn). Eleanor had one older sister Wilma.
