Elizabeth, daughter of Carl and Johanna (Beckman) Jurgens, was born January 8, 1898, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. On January 17 of the same year she was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township. She attended rural schools and on March 31, 1912, was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Lizzie was united in marriage on March 15, 1916, to William G. Asmus at Trinity Lutheran Church. After their marriage Lizzie was a homemaker while they farmed in Douglas Township, Audubon County. In 1947 Lizzie and her husband moved into Manning where she worked at the Ohde Furniture Store. Lizzie was active in the Zion Lutheran Church, the Dorcas Society, and the Past Time Club. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and playing cards.

Lizzie and her husband became residents of the Carroll Health Center on October 22, 1985. The very next day her husband died. Lizzie continued to live there until her death, on Friday, February 9, 1990, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 1 day.

Besides her husband and parents, Lizzie was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary Ross, Anne Kleve, and Dora Weigand; by three brothers: Lewis, August, and Max Jurgens; by two great-grandsons; by a daughter-in-law, Earleen Asmus; and by two sons-in-law, Robert Dunlap and Darrell Darnell.

Lizzie is survived by her children: Donald Asmus and his wife, Deloris, of Waseca, Minnesota; Dorothy Dunlap, of Manning; Gladys and her husband, Herman Sonksen, of Early; and Lillian and her husband, Mike Nolte, of Auburn; by 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; by a brother-in-law, Herman Asmus, of Harlan; by a sister-in-law, Lena Jurgens, of Sibley; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
