IN MEMORIAM ELLA IDA ASMUS

Ella, daughter of Gustav and Anna Fischer Ress, was born April 3, 1896, in Audubon County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa, where she also attended school. She moved with her family to a farm near Manilla, Iowa, at which time she became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa.

On January 21, 1920, Ella was united in marriage with William F. Asmus, at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning by Pastor Ansorge. Ella and Bill farmed in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, all their lives, eventually retiring but continuing to live on their farm until November 10, 1981 when they entered Friendship Home in Audubon.

Ella was a homemaker all her life, enjoying her family, her garden and flowers, and her crocheting. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and for many years had been a member of the Mission Aid Society.

Ella had been in failing health for many years and died on Saturday, January 5, 1985, at the Friendship Home, Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, 9 months, 2 days.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents; three children: a son, in infancy; a daughter, Alma, in infancy; and a daughter, Arlene, Mrs. George Bruhn, in 1957; two grandchildren: Mary Ellen and Timothy Kurth; two sisters: Clara Hammer and Pauline Lake; and one brother, Ernest Ress.

She is survived by her husband, William F. Asmus of the Friendship Home, Audubon; two children: Pearl and her husband, Emil Kurth, Audubon; Amos Asmus and his wife, Myra, Audubon; 18 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 sisters: Ida, Mrs. Herman Jochimsen, Manning; Edna, Mrs. Willie Hansen, Manilla; Anna, Mrs. Joe Hoelscher, Perry; Norma, Mrs. Rocky Wenzel, Frazee, Minnesota; 2 brothers: Hugo and Emil Ress, Manning; an aunt, Ella Schade, Manning; an uncle, Herman Fischer, manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Ella Asmus is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
