Emil Borkowski

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. for Emil Borkowksi of northwest Wessingtson Springs, who died Wednesday in Memorial hospital, Wessington Springs, at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 16 days. Services were held at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor William Otten officiating.

The church choir sang "Asleep in Jesus," and the congregation sang "What God Ordains is Always Good" and "Who Knows When Death May Overtake Me."

Burial was made in Prospect Hill cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Elias, Edwin Helm, C.W. Paddock, Jacob Reiner, Fred Fuerst and Chris Schaffer.

Active pallbearers were Walter Hofstetter, Fred Elias, Alfred Elias, Emmett Beers, Kenneth Miller, and Leonard Moldrem.

Emil Borkowski was born in Cook County, Illinois, September 14, 1873. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church in 1890. He was married January 29, 1897, to Louisa Krueger in Audubon, Ia. They came to South Dakota in 1911 and farmed in the Lane and Wessington Springs areas. He was a charter member of Zion Lutheran church. Mrs. Borkowski died in 1950.

Survivors include one son, Rudolph, Wessington Springs, with whom he has made his home; two daughters, Mrs. Hulda Goodwin, Yakima, Wash.; Mrs. Henry Ward, White Lake also 52 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren; one brother, two half-brothers and four half-sisters.

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

A large group of friends and relatives were present to attend the last rites.
