Emil H. Gosch, Local Resident, Dies Suddenly

Emil Herbert Gosch was the youngest son of Hans and Minnie Gosch (now Mrs. H. Biehl). He was born on the 10th of April, in the year 1901, in Omaha, Nebraska.

When he was a child he was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. Twenty-six years ago, in 1909, Emil came with his mother and the rest of his family to Manning, returning here some four years after the death of his father. It was in this vicinity that Emil received his education and here he grew up and attained the state of manhood.

On October the 18th, 1922, he was married in Carroll, Iowa, to Miss Mamie Wegner, and there were born to them three children, who with their mother survive their father and mourn his death. Their names are Norman William, born September 27th, 1926; Roger Don, born December 28th, 1929; and Clemet Lew, born September 14, 1931.

As was stated above Emil's father died in 1904 and he was preceded in death by a sister, Ella, Mrs. Otto Kroeger, who died in 1933.

Besides his wife and children and his mother who are bereaved at his untimely end, there are also two brothers, John of Jackson, Minnesota, and Otto of South Manning. Also his stepfather, Mr. Biehl, and a step-sister, Mrs. John Oeser of Westside.

Emil was taken ill last Sunday, July 14, and he went to consult a physician. The following day, his condition became critical indeed; the pains in his head indicating a most serious and alarming illness. That same day he was rushed to the Jennie Edmundson Hospital at Council Bluffs and there the diagnosis of his local doctor was confirmed. He was the victim of convulsions of the brain and pneumonia also developed. On Thursday evening at 5 o'clock, the 18th of July, he passed away. He was 34 years, 3 months, and 20 days of age.

His going has, brought untold sorrow to his family, and in this community great sympathy is felt for his sorrowing wife and little boys. His mother, too, is the object of our deepest understanding. His going is very tragic and today many, many people are touched by this young man's unexpected and untimely death. He will be much missed for he was well commended and people knew him to be a good father, a loyal husband and a worthy son.

The funeral services; were held Saturday, July 20 at the Ohde Funeral Home, the Rev. E.J. Hough, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Manning officiating. As pall bearers acted Otto Greteman, Ray Fischer, Gus Anderson, Albert Karsten, Emil Schnoor, and Gus Gruhn. Burial was made in the Hayes Township Cemetery in the family plot.
