Funeral services for Emma Kienast were held Wednesday, January 13, 1982, 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, in Manning with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Organist was Dorothy Kusel. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with grandsons as casketbearers. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Emma, daughter of August and Henrietta (Gruhn) Braun, was born March 28, 1902, near Manning. She attended the rural schools near her home. At the age of 9, she moved with her parents to North Dakota.

On January 12, 1922, she was united in marriage with John W. Kienast. The couple farmed in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa, and in 1941 they moved to a farm south of Manning. They retired to Manning in 1958.

Emma died at Manning General Hospital on January 11, 1982, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 13 days.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by: her husband in 1976; a son, Gilbert; two grandchildren; a sister, Marie; and a brother, Max.

She is survived by: five sons, Harvey of Burlington, Elmer of Arion, Maynard of Indianola, Iowa, Leroy of Long Beach, California, and Leland of Manning; by two brothers, August Braun of Carroll, and Fred Braun of Minot, North Dakota; by 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
