EMMA E. HAGEDORN

Funeral services for Emma E. Hagedorn were held Monday, January 8, 1990, at 2:30 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Marshall Brown of First Presbyterian Church in Manning officiated the service with Connie Siepker as organist and Helen Ohde as vocalist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Edward Vanderloo, Wayne Witt, Ronald Drake, Galen Hartman, Louis Broich, and Jeffrey Albertsen as casket-bearers.

Emma, daughter of Fritz and Anna (Wegner) Ehlers, was born May 9, 1895, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended country schools near her home.

March 1, 1916, Emma was united in marriage with William Hagedorn. She worked as a cook in Manning restaurants, for Ann Paulsen, and Buzz Cunningham. She was a skilled baker and made pastries. In later years Emma took care of her parents in their old age. She lived with her daughter in Manning before moving to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home five years ago in September. She died there early Saturday morning, January 6, 1990, at the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 28 days.

Emma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning and of the Ruth Circle. She was active in the Women's Relief Corps, the Bible Readers, and the Busy Thimbles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by two sons-in-law, Max Fischer and Harold Smith; by three brothers, George Ehlers, Herman Ehlers, and Fred Ehlers; and by a sister, Selma Kuebler.

Emma is survived by her daughter, Velma Smith, of Manning; by two granddaughters, Sharon and her husband, Ronald Drake, of Carroll and Carol and her husband, Jeffrey Albertsen, of Audubon; by a step-granddaughter, Verla and her husband, Max Jay, of Newton; by seven great-grandchildren; by two step-great-grandchildren; by five great-great-grandchildren; by four step-great-great-grandchildren; by a brother, Ernest Ehlers, of Manning; by two sisters, Florence Witt and Rose Stuhr, both of Carroll; by a sister-in-law, Hazel Ehlers, of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
