On Tuesday evening October 9, 1917, Mrs. Charles Hershman felt slightly ill. In the morning she felt so ill that Mr. Hershman called her mother and went to get some cold water to bathe her head. When he returned she had passed away. Death was due to heart failure.
Emma Dammann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Dammann was born August 14, 1894, and at the time of her death was 23 years, 1 month and 27 days old. She was baptized and confirmed in the German Lutheran Evangelical Church, March 3, 1912. She was married to Charles Hershman January 3, 1917.
The funeral was held last Friday in the M.E. Church and was largely attended. Services were conducted by Rev. Krumm and Rev. Illsley. After services the body was taken to the Manning Cemetery for burial.
The deceased leaves a sorrowing husband, father and mother, five brothers and one sister. The brothers are Henry, John, George, William, and Herman. The sister, is Mrs. Arthur Langbehn.
The out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Ed and Jack Hershman of Woolsey, South Dakota, Henry Burmeister and two sons and John Schumann of Avoca, Iowa.
Those sorrowing can feel that the entire community sympathizes with them in their irreparable loss.
