Emma (Barten) Hinz

It is with deep regret that we record the passing of the late Mrs. Herman D. (Emma Barten) Hinz, who entered upon eternal rest on Friday, Dec. 23rd, 1921.

She was born in Jackson County on March 12, 1863. Surrounded by the happy influences of home life, she spent her earlier years in that county. On January 19, 1887, she was married to the one who now deeply mourns her loss. After launching out upon the sea of matrimony, Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Hinz moved to Carroll County where they engaged in farming. In this capacity they worked for 30 years; and their splendid business ability, coupled with an industrious life made them very successful. In 1907 they moved to Manning and have made it their home ever since.

Much blessing and great happiness attended their married life, and they were blessed with eight children, six of whom are still with us.

The deceased had not been well for several years; and although she submitted to two operations recently her health did not regain its full bloom. The last day of her life on this earth was very bright; she seemed so cheerful; but in God's providence it was the smile just before the farewell. After a somewhat restless night, Thursday, she complained of pain; and about 7 o'clock on Friday morning while the loving husband sought to minister to her immediate need, the angel of death called, and silently, yet quickly, the angels bore her soul back to God who gave it. The funeral took place on Monday. The service was held in the M. E. Church and was conducted by the Rev. H. Coates. After the service, at which hundreds of citizens gathered to express their sympathy, the remains were laid to rest in the Manning cemetery.

She leaves to mourn, her life partner, Mr. Herman D. Hinz, six children, Louis, Frank, Harry, Rose, Elsie, and Mrs. Henry (Nettie) Timmermann, also eight grandchildren.

The out of town attendants at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Dobrick, Chicago; Mrs. C.A. Dobrick, Chicago; Mr. Henry Barten, Bellvue, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Koepke and family, Arcadia, Iowa: Mrs. Berns, Lidderdale, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Bornhoft, West Side, Iowa; Eunice McMahan and Alice Fogarty, Harlan, Iowa; Amanda Timm, Emma Wilken, and Amanda Kruse of Denison.
