MRS. HERMAN [EMMA] KIENAST

Emma Augusta Kienast, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Dreher) Zaiger was born September 10, 1893, in Cameron Township, Audubon County, Iowa, and died September 28, 1983, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon at the age of 90 years and 18 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township northwest of Audubon and attended school near there.

On December 22, 1915, she married Herman Kienast. They farmed in Audubon County until they retired to Manning, Iowa in 1951. They have been residents of the Friendship Home in Audubon for the past 5 years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Manning.

Although no children were born to this union, in 1925 they took 3 children of her brother, Fred Meaike, to raise as their own. Over the years she gave a home to many others, always sharing her love.

Preceding her in death was one grandson; three great-grandchildren; her parents; six sisters: Martha Zaiger, Elizabeth Plowman, Minnie Johnson, Anna Croisant, Pauline Waters, Yetta Rossow; and six brothers: Fred Meaike, William Zaiger, George Zaiger, Chris Zaiger, Herman Zaiger, and Everett Zaiger.

Survivors include her husband, Herman of Audubon, Iowa; two daughters: Gladys Englun of Bellflower, California; Martha Foster of Wallace, Indiana; one son, Willard Meaike of Gray, Iowa, 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Barten, of Odebolt, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Douglas Young on Monday October 3, 1983, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon. Interment Lincoln Township Cemetery, Gray, Iowa. Casketbearers were Linn Meaike, Larry Meaike, Leonard Meaike, Lonnie Meaike, Lloyd Meaike, Lyle Meaike, and Lance Meakie.
