ESTHER MATILDA JAHN
Esther, daughter of Charlie and Emma (Grau) Pfoltner, was born June 10, 1917, in Ewoldt Township, Carroll County, Iowa. She attended rural schools and then Manning High School for one year.

On September 22, 1937, Esther was united in marriage with Amos Jahn. Three children, Deanna, Dorene, and Dale, were born to this union. Esther and her husband farmed in various areas of eastern Crawford County, and later in Audubon County. In 1950 they moved to a farm near Adair, Iowa, and lived there until moving to town in 1979. Two years ago they moved to Manning. While living in Adair, Esther worked for a nursing home, a produce company, served as school custodian, and cooked at a restaurant. She was a member of the O.D.O. Club, Immanuel Lutheran Congregation in Adair, and the church Ladies Aid. During their years in Manning, Esther and her husband were part of the Zion Lutheran Church family.

Esther became ill on Tuesday, September 10, 1996, and was taken to Manning General Hospital; she died there unexpectedly that afternoon at the age of 79 years and 3 months.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; by a sister, Alma Schroeder; by a brother and a sister in infancy; by two brothers-in-law: Louis Schroeder and Woody Flenker.

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life;
he who believes in me, though he die, yet shaft he live,
and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die."
