Reverend Dennis Johnson with music by Connie Siepker, and Larry Genzen as vocalist. Casketbearers were Billie Nelson, Gene Olsen, Larry Olsen, Lynn Stein, Phillip Enenbach, and Max Olsen. Interment was held at the Manning Cemetery. A memorial service, Order of Eastern Star, was held Tuesday, March 6, 1984, 7 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home, Manning.

Esther, daughter of Henry Hans and Florence Edna (Warner) Olsen, was born on December 5, 1908, at Hancock, Iowa, in Valley Township, Pottawattamie County. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1928.

On September 8, 1929, she was united in marriage with Gerald M. Johnson. They made their home in Harlan, moving to Manning in 1940. Esther worked for Priebe and Sons until they discontinued business. Her husband, Jerry, was employed by Fred D. Ross Company and later operated the Champlin Station on Highway 141.

Since December 17, 1983, Esther and Jerry have make their home in the Terrace Apartments. She had been in failing health and died on Monday, March 5, 1984, at Manning General Hospital at the age of 75 years and 3 months.

Esther was a 35-year member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and was Past Worthy Matron.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by a son in infancy, by two brothers, Ivan and Ralph, by two sisters, Bernice Nelson and Dora Lockhart.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Johnson of Manning, by her son, Bobbie Dale Johnson, and his wife, Virginia, of Manning; by two granddaughters, Teresa Schroeder and Sonia Johnson, both of Manning; by two brothers, Everett Olsen of Hancock, Iowa and John Olsen of Monta Vista, California; by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Esther Johnson is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
