Eunice A. Friedrichsen

Eunice Anna Friedrichsen was born on a farm near Aspinwall, Iowa, July 5, 1918, the daughter of Louis and Christina (Lorenzen) Ranniger. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in 1918 at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa, and confirmed in her Christian Faith there December 20, 1936. She was raised on farms in the Aspinwall and Manning area and received her formal education in the rural schools.

On June 30, 1937, Eunice was united in marriage with Raymond F. Friedrichsen at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Manning. They made their home on a farm northwest of Manning and their union was blessed with two daughters, Mardella and Marcia. In 1959 they moved to Manning and Eunice was employed as an assistant cook at the Manning Hospital. After moving to Denison in 1963, she was employed in the dietary departments of the Denison Schools, Eventide and Denison Care Center, retiring in 1980.

Raymond died November 9, 1993, and Eunice continued to make her home at Eventide Senior Housing in Denison. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing with her beloved Raymond, her memberships in card clubs, socializing with family and friends, cooking, baking and embroidering. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. Eunice died early Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 90 years, 10 months and 9 days.

Including her parents and her husband, Eunice was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mardella Newman, one grandson, Michael Newman, two brothers, Wayne and Wilmer Ranniger and one sister, Irene Jansen. Those remaining to cherish her memory include one daughter, Marcia and husband, Gaylord Moeller of Denison, son-in-law, Melvin Newman and wife, Nancy of Desert Hot Springs, California, two grandsons, Monte and Mark Newman of Desert Hot Springs, California, 5 great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, Effie Christensen, Lucille Ranniger and Vila Ranniger all of Manning, Iowa, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2009, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. David Loeschen officiating. Music for the service included three congregational hymns, "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home", "The Lamb" and "On Eagles Wings" with Mary Kuhlmann serving as pianist and organist. Pallbearers included Russ Ranniger, William Ranniger, Gaylin Ranniger, Dale Jansen, Gerald Schreck and Raymond Christensen. Interment was at the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa.

Following the services the family invited everyone to join them in fellowship and a luncheon at the church served by Our Savior Women's Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com, Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
