DEATH OF E. HATHEWAY'S MOTHER
Mr. Ernest Hatheway, residing four miles southwest of town, returned home on the 10th from Ottawa, Kansas, to where he had gone ten days prior on account of the serious illness of his mother. The mother died on Wednesday, October 4, at the age of 72 years. Before going to Kansas, some fifteen years ago, Mrs. Hatheway lived in Clinton county, Iowa, where she reared a large family. In speaking of her life and death, the Ottawa County (Kansas) Democrat has this: "Mrs. Hatheway has been in feeble health for many months. During the past week her death has been expected at any moment, and her husband and children have been attendant at her bedside. The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Thursday morning, Rev. W.T. Shelby preaching the funeral sermon.

"Eunice C. Prior was born in Stow, Portage County, Ohio, April 21st, 1827.

Was married to Edwin S. Hatheway in Northampton, Ohio, by the Rev. T.T. Holloway, pastor of M.E. Church, March 18, 1845.

"Removed to Iowa in the year 1850; thence to Bennington, Kansas, March 1886 where she resided to the day of her death.

"She was converted and joined the Methodist Church in her youth. For more than fifty-six years she has been a faithful worker in the church of her early choice. In her home the circuit-rider always found a welcome during the pioneer days of both Iowa, and Kansas. She was always identified with interests of the church. During her last illness the welfare of the church and Sunday school was on her mind. She never made a loud profession, but during all these years her trust and confidence was in the living God, and she died as she had lived, trusting in the merits of the Crucified Redeemer. She rests from her labors and her work will follow her."
