Evelyn Corine, daughter of Nels and Caroline (Hanson) Brue, was born April 21, 1916, at Kirkman, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Irwin. Evelyn grew up in Irwin and graduated from Irwin High School. She then attended normal training classes at Harlan High School and began teaching rural school in Shelby County. Throughout the years she attended summer and night classes at Drake University earning her Bachelor of Arts.

On September 25, 1937, Evelyn was united in marriage with Ivan Herman Antone in Maryville, Missouri. Five children were born to this union. They lived on a farm north of Manilla before moving to Audubon County and then to Manning in 1948. Evelyn continued teaching rural school in Shelby and Carroll County and then in Audubon Community School District. She retired from teaching in 1978 after 31 years.

Evelyn was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning where she enjoyed participating in the Braille Group and helping with Vacation Bible School. She served as president of the Audubon Elementary Retired Teachers and the Pastime Club of Manning. She was a great cook and baker, enjoyed picnics and was very family-focused throughout her life.

After the sudden death of her husband in 1978, Evelyn continued to live in Manning until moving to Denison in 2001 to be near her daughter. When she was no longer able to live alone she moved into the Eventide Nursing home in Denison. Her health took a very sudden turn for the worse and she died in the emergency room at Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 11 days.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; infant son Lynn Ivan; son-in-law Alan Childress and three brothers Charles, Ellsworth and Leo Brue.

She is survived by three daughters: Carol and husband Charles Francis of Loudon, TN; Berneil and husband Paul Tait of Mt. Prospect, IL and Donna Childress of Deloit; son Bruce Anton and wife Ann of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren: Scott Francis and wife Meg; Jeff Francis and wife Kathy; Susan and husband Alan Hughes; Stacey and husband Tim Ruchti; Sarah Tait; Stephanie and husband Andrew Thornhill; Kimberly and husband Jerry Lorenzen; Kristi and husband Troy Kluender; and Erick Anton; eleven great-grandchildren; brother Leslie Brue and wife Ruby of Audubon; sisters-in-law Margie Brue of LeCompte, LA and Luella Mahnke of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
