Ferdinand Jansen

Ferdinand Jansen was born August 6, 1852, in Hohenfelde, Gut Panker, Schleswig-Holstein, and died December 8, 1917, in Aspinwall, Crawford County, Iowa. He married Emma Wiese June 21, 1879, in Germany. She was born June 21, 1856, in Statendorf, Probstei, Holstein, and died December 15, 1906, in Manning, Carroll County, Iowa.

After an illness lasting several months, Ferdinand Jansen passed on last Saturday. He reached an age of 65 years, 4 month and 2 days. He was born in Hohenfelde, Gut Panker, Schleswig-Holstein on August 6th, 1852. In 1879 he married the virgin Emma Wiese and three years later immigrated to America. There they lived in Clinton County for approximately 18 years and then moved to the area of Manning. On December 15th, 1906, his wife died with whom he had lived peacefully together for 27 years. They had 10 children of which 2 died before their father. One during his childhood and the other one in the age of last year. The ones still alive are: William, Frau Charles (Lena) Hagedorn, Henry, Frau Henry Fischer, Ferb Jansen, Frau Charles Radeleff, Frau Bargend and Fraulien Emma Jansen. On February 8th, 1910, Mr. Ferdinand Jansen got married once more to Doris Brandenburg of Clinton County. They had lived south of Manning for five years and then moved to Aspinwall to enjoy their age. In August he started suffering from a neurological illness which he bore without complaining. As he was suffering harmfully the last days death came releasing to him. His grieved widow, the eight children, his brother Henry in Clinton and his brother Wilhelm in Germany mourn for him.

The funeral was on Tuesday. Priest Wendt lead the funeral first at, home and then in the hall of Aspinwall and after that the body was buried on the local graveyard. Numerous friends and members of the veterans-club - to which the deceased belonged - were present.


Ferdinand Jansen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
