Florence Carstens Were Held Monday

Friends in this vicinity were saddened Saturday, August 22, when word of the passing of Florence Carstens was received. While she had been in poor health for five or six weeks, her death was entirely unexpected and proved a great shock to her immediate relatives and friends.

Florence Friederike Margaretha Carstens was born January 13, 1903, in Iowa township, near Aspinwall, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Carstens, and died August 22, 1936, in the Methodist hospital at Sioux City at the age of 33 years, 7 months and 9 days.

She was baptized in the German Lutheran faith on September 4, 1904, and received her education in the country schools in this community.
After finishing her school work she remained at home where she faithfully assisted her mother in the household duties until she was taken, ill on July 16, and about two weeks ago was removed to the hospital at Sioux City where her health had improved steadily until her sudden death on Saturday.

She leaves to mourn her passing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Carstens, one sister, Malinda, of Sioux City, Iowa, three brothers, Melroy, Albert and Junior Edwin, all at home, besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 24, at the home of her parents at 2 o'clock p. m., Rev. Kreummel of Walnut, Iowa, conducting the services. Mr. and Mrs. Harry McCracken sang three selections.

Casket bearers were six cousins, Jack Peters, George Peters, Ed Peters, Henry Carstens, Amos Johns and Herman Peper.
Interment was in the Manilla cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the services were Miss Irene Peters and Ed Peters of Sioux City, Mrs. Geo. Peper and children, Viola, Edna and Herman, of Flandreau, So. Dak.; Mrs. Geo. Jensen, Alfred Gerhardt and Francis Jensen of Spirit Lake; Mrs. James Hedges of Jackson, Minn.; Martha and Jens Paulsen, Mrs. Norbert Gorselski, Mrs. Herbert Messerschmidt and Mrs. Mike Schmidt of Pender, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Thompson of Charter; Oak; Mrs. Hayes and children, Maxine, Buddy and George of Osceola; Alvera Fisher and Orva Utemark of Wakefield, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Ness, Mrs. Harold Ness, Mrs. Joseph Ness and Leyder Ness of Sioux City.
